Waiting for “Superman” Crusades for Better Schools

Davis Guggenheim, the director of the dramatically successful documentary An Inconvenient Truth, which forever altered the worldwide debate about global warming, is focusing his attention on another critical issue facing us today—the poor state of our public education system in America–with his latest documentary, Waiting for “Superman.”

His film, which is produced by Participant Media and has just opened in theaters around the country, is already generating a national debate at the government level, significant contributions on the individual level, and media attention from everyone from Oprah to NBC Nightly News to Good Morning America to Time Magazine.

The fate of our country will be determined in our classrooms — the place in which our children need to be educated sufficiently to compete at the highest levels in science, mathematics, and new technologies. America has traditionally led in these areas until recently, because our public schools are falling behind those in many other countries around the world. Studies also show, as explained in the companion book to the film, A Participant Media Guide to Waiting for Superman, that if a neighborhood school begins to fail, so will the surrounding neighborhood.

Do you have children in public school? Are you worried about the education your children are receiving? Do you want to know what you can do to make a positive change? Join with concerned citizens such as Bill and Melinda Gates, who have donated $500million to help turn our public schools around, and learn what is wrong with how our children are being taught today, become involved at your local level, and help improve conditions in your local school. The fate of not only your child’s future, but our country is at stake.
