There are many fabulous contenders for the top choices for romantic movies—whether they are comedies or dramas. Here is our list. Feel free to let us know if we have not included one of your favorites! We know from all the conversations we have had with our friends that not everyone has the same perspective on what makes a story romantic. Here are our favorites, please tell us yours!
1. An Affair to Remember (1957)

Plot-In this poignant and humorous love story nominated for four Academy Awards, Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr meet on an ocean liner and fall deeply in love. Though each is engaged to someone else, they agree to meet six months later at the Empire State Building if they still feel the same way about each other. But a tragic accident prevents their rendezvous and the lover’s future takes an emotional and uncertain turn.

Plot: A Paris woman, in search of helping others finds love in mysterious ways. Her widowed father yearns to travel but won’t, so to inspire the old man she sends his garden gnome on a tour of the world; with whispered gossip, she brings together two cranky regulars at her café; she reverses the doorknobs and reprograms the speed dial of a grocer who’s mean to his assistant. Gradually she realizes her own life needs fixing, and a chance meeting leads to her most elaborate stratagem of all.

Plot–The story of two North Carolina teens, Landon Carter and Jamie Sullivan, who are thrown together after Landon gets into trouble and is made to do community service.
